Content lately

Happy Wednesday! Hope you're having a great week so far. I'm loving my new job AND realizing I have much less bandwidth than I did when I was unemployed - go figure. So, coming in mid-week with a light and fun list of content recommendations. Enjoy :)

An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard - This one is like honing in on the lives of the Death Eaters in Harry Potter with a little Jack the Ripper angle, all set in New York City. Pure escapism. I loved it.

The Undoing - We watched this entire mini-series (6, 1-hour episodes) in a day. It's heart-wrenching and brutal while twisting and leaving you hanging like only the best thrillers can. It's violent and blindsiding - stayed with me for a long time after watching. Also you can't beat the combination of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant - though I will never look at his light rom-coms like Notting Hill the same way.

Bombshell - Another amazing stacked cast: Nicole Kidman (on a Nicole kick this week I guess), Charlize Theron, Margo Robbie, Allison Janney, the list goes on. Tells the story of Fox News anchors (primarily Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson) teaming up with the scores of other harassed women in taking down notorious pervert Roger Ailes. It's very well done and an apt nod to the #MeToo movement.

The Happiest Season - Hulu's full length Christmas movie this year. Dan Levy plays a supporting role and I wished the whole story had centered around him. Kristen Stewart is the lead and while the story is sweet and long overdue (it's the first Christmas rom-com based on a gay couple that I've seen), she just doesn't do it for me the way he does. But it's heartwarming and has a great cast - a good way to mix it up from the typical holiday movies this time of year.

Choosing to be Childfree on Girls Gotta Eat podcast - I've been waiting for them to do an episode about choosing not to have children and this did not disappoint. Direct, emotional, nuanced, funny, everything I expect from Rayna and Ashley. Also gives helpful advice on talking to friends and family about this decision so definitely recommend if this is something you are struggling with.

Destiny's Inner Child on Be There in Five podcast - Kate does the best nostalgic deep dives and this look back through her high school and college journals, paired with incredible song clips from the late 90's and early 00's is an angsty millennial's dream. Her podcast is long form so it's perfect for really long walks and big chores around the house. While I'm on the subject, her other recent episode, Good Will (Bowery) Hunting is an excellent listen for all T.Swift / folklore fans. It's about an hour longer than the studio sessions themselves so a great pick if you want to stretch out the Long Pond magic.

That's it for me! Read / watch / listen to anything amazing lately? Drop it in the comments - I love a good recommendation.
